CHICAGO (AP) – Illinois’ medical marijuana companies, operating in an industry abounding with rules, now have one less regulation they have to follow.

The Chicago Tribune reports that a federal judge ruled last week that a provision preventing cannabis companies from making campaign contributions in Illinois wasn’t constitutional. The ruling was in response to a 2015 lawsuit filed by two Libertarian Party candidates who sought contributions from the medical marijuana industry.

However, cannabis companies are used to…

ATLANTA — Georgia lawmakers reached an agreement late Thursday to allow people with state permits for concealed handguns to carry on public college campuses, but the compromise still needed to get approval from both chambers. It was unclear whether that happened at press time.

Republican Gov. Nathan Deal vetoed a similar bill last year, but senators involved in the last-minute negotiations said they were “confident” that the bill would get signed into law if it got out of the General Assembly.

Under the bill, guns would still be…

The chair of the Florida Senate’s Health Policy Committee says they’re at least two weeks away from voting on a medical marijuana bill.

The committee held a workshop on Wednesday as it began to consider five bills to implement Amendment 2. Sen. Dana Young, a Tampa Republican, says there isn’t a consensus on a framework for what might come out of the committee.

Amendment 2 was approved by 71 percent of voters last November. It took effect on Jan. 3 and allows higher-strength marijuana to be used for a wider list of medical ailments.

Utah Group Begins Push to Legalize Medical Cannabis

March 22, 2017/in Cannabis, Marijuana, Medical Cannabis, Medical Marijuana /by News Feed

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Medical marijuana advocates in Utah are planning to try to get an initiative on the November 2018 ballot that would allow the drug to be used for treatment.

Advocates say they’re done waiting for state lawmakers, who have rejected passing a broad medical cannabis law during the last three consecutive sessions. Medical marijuana advocate Christine Stenquist says the legislature’s decisions over the last few years have made it clear that lawmakers have no desire to move forward with legalizing the drug, so…

The police chief in Monona, Wisconsin seems like a very chill guy.

“If the community values are, ‘Marijuana is not that serious of an offense’ and they want to have a $1 fine, or no fine, that’s their opinion,” Chief Walter Ostrenga said after the town council voted to scrap all weed possession charges.

Under the new ordinance, possessing marijuana in public or in private spaces is no longer subject to a fine, as long as the person is over 21.

Smoking weed in a private residence is also exempt, although toking in public is still…

While marijuana is now becoming more legally accessible in the United States, there is still a lot that researchers don’t know about how this plant really works.

It was in the 1930s, during what was referred to as “Reefer Madness,” that marijuana was first banned. Just because marijuana is now more legally accessible, there is still a lot of research to be done in order to better understand the plant and exactly how it affects people.

Federal Agency Stops Asking If Medical Marijuana Is Real

March 17, 2017/in Cannabis, Marijuana, Medical Cannabis, Medical Marijuana /by News Feed

Earlier this month, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) updated its web page on medical marijuana. The change is subtle, but significant.

The conclusion one could draw, without reading a word further, was that nobody was really sure one way or the other; the question was an open one.

Since then, a majority of states across the country have gone ahead and answered with a…
