CHICAGO (AP) – Illinois’ medical marijuana companies, operating in an industry abounding with rules, now have one less regulation they have to follow.
The Chicago Tribune reports that a federal judge ruled last week that a provision preventing cannabis companies from making campaign contributions in Illinois wasn’t constitutional. The ruling was in response to a 2015 lawsuit filed by two Libertarian Party candidates who sought contributions from the medical marijuana industry.

ATLANTA — Georgia lawmakers reached an agreement late Thursday to allow people with state permits for concealed handguns to carry on public college campuses, but the compromise still needed to get approval from both chambers. It was unclear whether that happened at press time.
Republican Gov. Nathan Deal vetoed a similar bill last year, but senators involved in the last-minute negotiations said they were “confident” that the bill would get signed into law if it got out of the General Assembly.

While it’s been over two months since the Department of Public Health started accepting applications for medical cannabis licenses, less than a handful have actually been submitted.
Out of the hundred-plus applications picked up, only three for qualified patients have been submitted to the Department. No actual licenses have been issued for the three applications as they’re still under review by a committee. Other applications have been picked up for medical cannabis in the fields of cultivation, manufacturing, and dispensaries.

Earlier this month, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) updated its web page on medical marijuana. The change is subtle, but significant.
