States with medical marijuana laws, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association, experience a 25% drop in opioid drug overdose deaths that grows to 33% by the 6th year. These States also see a 5% drop in suicides.

During 2013 there were 1019 opioid overdose deaths in Kentucky and in 2010 there were 609 suicides. A comprehensive medical marijuana program would have prevented 30 suicide deaths and 255 overdose deaths.
