UK: Parliament to Debate Marijuana Legalization After Petition Gathers 150k Signatures

LONDON — In less than a week, a petition to legalize the production, sale and use of marijuana in the United Kingdom has gathered over 150,000 signatures, more than enough to force a debate in Parliament.

The online petition, launched Tuesday, calls on Parliament to “make the production, sale and use of cannabis legal.”

According to the petition, legalizing cannabis in the United Kingdom could bring in £900m ($1.4 million USD) in taxes annually, save £400m ($6.2 million USD) on policing cannabis and create over 10,000 new jobs.
