Missouri Man Serving Life in Prison for Marijuana Granted Parole

JEFFERSON CITY, MO — A  61 year old grandfather sentenced to life in prison for a marijuana-related offense has been granted parole, and will be released from prison within the next month.

Jeff Mizanskey was sentenced in 1996 as a “persistent drug offender” to life without the possibility of parole for his third marijuana conviction, but in May, following public outcry and a popular change.org petition,  Missouri Governor Jay Nixon commuted Mizanskey’s sentence, giving him the possibility of parole.
