A 77-year-old congressional candidate accused of growing 180 pot plants doesn’t think her political ambitions have gone up in smoke.

On May 20, police in Crossville, Tennessee, raided the home of Flo Matheson, who is running in the Democratic primary for the 6th District congressional seat.

A 54-year-old Fountain woman was cited Tuesday for utility meter tampering after police responded to a tip and found spliced wiring that fed a legal marijuana grow operation, authorities said.

Police received an anonymous tip from a neighbor who saw electrical items being hooked up to the house in a way that did not look up to utility code, Fountain police Lt. Tommy Coates said.

“We heard about suspicious activity around the residence,” Coates said. “We made contact.”

As more states legalize marijuana, adolescents' problems with pot decline

Sharod Kindell pleads guilty in 2015 case

Sharod Kindell.

Sharod Kindell, 25, pleaded guilty to three charges in Denver District Court on Friday, according to the Denver district attorney’s office.

Kindell pleaded guilty to one felony count of possession of a weapon by a previous offender, one misdemeanor assault charge and one count of distributing marijuana.

Prosecutors dismissed 11 other charges as part of the agreement.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for July 15.
